Suzuki Method & Helps

What are the main principles of the Suzuki Method? (this links you directly to the Suzuki website, which by the way is a GOLDMINE of information for parents)

SUZUKI LITERATURE:
Ability Development from Age Zero by Shinichi Suzuki***
This book is a must-read for parents! The 96-page book focuses on Suzuki's philosophies and how to apply them with children. It also has sections related to a lot of the struggles parents have with their children, with sections about how to create an enjoyable practice time, exemplify good behavior, and develop each child's individual talent.

Nurtured by Love by Shinichi Suzuki
It's a great(if short! 101 pages) read about the birth of the Suzuki method, and also expounds some of the philosophies behind the Mother Tongue method. This one has a little more of the Suzuki's life and the history behind the method. I know it is available at Long Beach libraries, but also is inexpensive to buy and can be purchased online or at most music stores.

***I love both of these books, but ask my parents to read Ability Development, since I feel like it focuses the most on the practical application of the Suzuki method. Understanding my studio's philosophies will help to make your and your child's experience a successful one, and avoid a lot of the little frustrations that can come up while learning a new instrument!
